Good Afternoon Everyone!
There's good news!!! For those people who are thinking of having surgery for their sciatica pain, they can save their insurance company thousands of dollars and choose chiropractic care instead. This is according to the recent study: "Manipulation or Microdisketomy for Sciatica? A Prospective Randomized Clinical Study," (Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, October 2010, Vol. 33 iss. 8, p: 576-584. "Researchers concluded that spinal manipulation was just as effective as microdiskectomy for patients struggling with sciatica secondary to lumbar disk herniation (LDH)." Translation: Chiropractic adjustments were equally successful for low back pain/sciatica when compared to surgery! During the study, patients would either receive surgery (Cost: $25,000.00 per procedure) or 21 chiropractic sessions (Cost: they over-estimated a cost of $100 per visit which would be $2100 total). The difference of the two methods of treatment would be $22,900 in savings and the fact that the chiropractic care will come with much less chance for negative side effects!
*The point here is if you or someone you know has low back/sciatic pain, PLEASE have them consider chiropractic care before surgery!
