Good Afternoon Everyone!
Do kids need chiropractic care? Well you probably know my answer to that question, so I am going to let you decide for yourself by reading about one of my patients below:
Before coming to see me this patient was diagnosed with "severe chronic migraines," and was prescribed a very strong migraine medication. This patient was not that different from any other patient ....normal bumps on the head, slips & falls, but otherwise very good health. However, the patient did suffer from heat stroke in the summer while enjoying outdoor activity (this stress was the probable trigger to the cause that you will read about below). Ever since that point, this patient has been having chronic severe migraines. So I guess the diagnosis was right....? No! After examination, I realized that this patient's servere migraines were a result of having subluxations (bones out of place, putting pressure on nerves) in the cervical and thoracic spine. The most noteable was a subluxation in a vertebra at the top of neck called the "atlas."
Having misalignment in the "atlas" is known in chiropractic to cause mild to severe headaches (also other conditions, but we can talk about that another time). A series of spinal adjustments was the recommended course of care and ever since the first adjustment, this patient did not complain of any more migraine headaches (note: she was having a severe headache 2x a week at this point). As a result, the patient does not have to be on a strong migraine medication (which can cause some very serious side effects).
The reason why I have described this specific patient's case is that the patient is only 5 years old! Because of examples like this, I have formed my opinion; which is that kids do need and benefit from chiropractic care. My hope for you after reading this is that you have strengthened your opinion on kids needing chiropractic or I have changed your mind in that you will now consider that kids need chiropractic care. So in closing this week, I ask that you please recommend to the parents of any child suffering from headaches, muskuloskeletal pain or some other injury to at least consult a chiropractor about the condition.
Yours in Health,
Dr. Jeff
